Mommy Makeover

Your beautiful new bundle of joy is a gift to be sure. You love that baby more than anything, but that doesn’t mean you have to love the way pregnancy and breastfeeding has changed your body. A mommy makeover is a comprehensive approach to rejuvenating your body. It is highly customizable and tailored to your goals. To learn more, please contact the staff at the Baltimore practice of board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Maakan Taghizadeh.

Mommy Makeover Treatment Areas

What areas of your body won’t return to normal after pregnancy? It’s very common to develop fat that lingers, as well as stretched, deflated or puffy skin. While your body may have returned to normal, you may find that certain issues persist despite diet and exercise.

The most common treatment areas addressed by a mommy makeover include:

  • Breasts
  • Abdomen
  • Tummy
  • Upper arms
  • Thighs

There really is no right or wrong answer when it comes to identifying treatment areas. The whole point of the makeover is to accomplish the outcomes you have in mind. Spend some time thinking about the exact areas you’d like to enhance and rejuvenate, and then Dr. Tag will help you narrow down the appropriate treatment plan for you.

What’s included in a Mommy Makeover?

Procedures in a mommy makeover:

A tummy tuck and breast surgery are the two most common procedures in a mommy makeover. Breasts often become deflated, elongated and saggy after pregnancy and breastfeeding. A breast lift raises the position of the breasts and improves their overall shape. You may want to consider combining a lift with breast implants, which means the breasts will be lifted and also enlarged.

A tummy tuck – also called abdominoplasty – is very typical to mommy makeovers. The growing baby expands and stretches the belly. After childbirth, this stretched abdominal skin will shrink back to a degree, but perhaps not completely. The abdominal muscles also stretch, in some cases so far that you can feel a gap in the area beneath your belly button where the muscles have essentially split. A tummy tuck can include repairing these muscles by stitching them back together.

Mommy Makeover Questions

What does a mommy makeover cost?

The cost varies based on the procedures included. After discussing the plan with you, our team will make sure you have a complete breakdown of the cost, as well as your payment and financing options.

When should I get a mommy makeover?

You will need to wait until your body and hormones stabilize after pregnancy. This could take 6 months to a year. After that, it’s your decision as to when the right time is for rejuvenation! If you plan to have more children, it may make sense to delay the mommy makeover: another pregnancy could definitely change your results, leading to a return of some of the sagging and excess fat you sought to undo. But that is a personal choice.

How long does it take to recover from a mommy makeover?

The timeline will vary depending on the procedures included. Tummy tuck surgery has one of the longest recoveries. For several weeks, you will need to avoid heavy lift and over-exerting yourself. We provide you with complete recovery instructions at the consultation so you know what to expect.

Does insurance pay for a mommy makeover?

No, health insurance is highly unlikely to cover any portion of a mommy makeover. Insurance policies come into play when a procedure is medically necessary. The only situations in which this may apply are for breast reduction and repair of separated abdominal muscles (diastasis recti). Review your individual insurance policy to see if any coverage for these types of procedures exist.

Should I lose weight before a mommy makeover?

It really depends. For most procedures, you should be at your goal weight, or within about 10 pounds of that weight. A stable weight is an important part of achieving good results. The results would no longer be satisfactory if you continue to lose a lot of weight after surgery.
