Maakan Taghizadeh, MD
Award-winning, fellowship-trained, board-certified plastic surgeon
Meet the man known for his meticulous surgical and non-surgical results as well as charisma, compassion and warmth
Baltimore’s own has become one of the most respected plastic surgeons in our community
Through a combination of science, training and artistry, Dr. Tag, as he is affectionately known, creates some of the most beautiful (never overdone) transformations of the body, breasts and face. He attended Gilman School and then graduated Cum Laude from James Madison University. After JMU, he went to work for Eli Lilly and Company, where he was awarded as the top sales representative in the USA.
Educated and trained under some of the most renowned experts in the field.
Dr. Tag earned his medical degree at the University of Maryland School of Medicine in Baltimore, MD. He then completed his training in general surgery at the Ohio State University Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio where he was awarded with the prestigious “Intern of the Year Award.” Next, he completed his plastic and reconstructive surgery residency at the Ohio State University Medical Center. He returned to Baltimore following his residency to complete a fellowship in Breast, Microsurgical, and Aesthetic Surgery at Mercy Medical Center.
A career built on a solid philosophy of “Patient First.”
He takes great pride in truly listening to his patients and develops a treatment plan specifically tailored to each individual’s goals. In fact, he chose the name of his practice because “U” are what he cares about most. Here is that philosophy in his own words:
“Mine is a much more casual approach to partnering with my patients. Formality is just not in my DNA. Warmth and humor go a long way to make patients feel at ease. But in my work, I’m a perfectionist. I educate the patient, provide all their options, and support them every step of the way as though they are family.”
“Time is a secret ingredient. I don’t rush anything. Putting each patient at ease and listening carefully Is essential during consultations. So is executing every procedure carefully and with the patient’s expectations front and center.”
“I learned discipline as a Division I college wrestler. There are some similarities between sports and aesthetic medicine. Both take dedication, stamina, singlemindedness, training and the desire to be the best.”
Dr. Tag has received numerous awards for his patient care and surgical expertise.
His awards include: RealSelf Top Doctor, RealSelf 500, RealSelf Hall of Fame, and 10 Best Plastic Surgeons in Maryland by the American Institute of Plastic Surgeons. He was named to Baltimore Magazine’s Top Doctors for 2018 for the categories of Cosmetic Surgery: Body Contouring, Cosmetic Surgery: General, and Reconstructive Surgery. In 2019 & 2020, he was named Baltimore magazine’s top doc for Cosmetic: general, Cosmetic surgery: Breast and Body Contouring, Cosmetic surgery: Facial, and Reconstructive surgery. He is a member of The American Society of Plastic Surgeons and The American Society of Reconstructive Microsurgeons.
He is not just a surgeon; he ‘pays it forward’ by educating residents and medical students.
Dr. Tag is an attending plastic surgeon on staff at Saint Agnes Hospital where he has taken part in the education of general surgery residents, plastic surgery residents from Johns Hopkins and medical students. He has successfully started a microsurgical program at St. Agnes Hospital performing DIEP and SGAP flaps for breast reconstruction. He is also on staff at Howard County General Hospital and Mercy Medical Center.
A Full Life Outside The OR.
In his free time, he enjoys playing golf, working out and spending time with his lovely wife, Dr. Jessica Wertz who was an All-American gymnast at Nebraska and is now a sports medicine physician at INOVA sports medicine, their two children, Taylor and Teague, and dogs, Cabo and Maui.
