Restore Your Results

Breast implants don’t last forever. At some point, you may want to refresh your breast augmentation results with a Baltimore breast revision surgery at U Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics.

Or, you may experience an implant problem like rippling or capsular contracture and require new implants to correct the issue. No matter your situation, Dr. Maakan Taghizadeh can perform a breast revision procedure to restore your results!

Reasons for Breast Implant Revision

Cosmetic Changes

Cosmetic updates are common reasons for breast implant revision. After years of your original breast augmentation results, you may have realized you’d like to boost the volume or even decrease overall size.

If you aren’t quite sure what kind of update you want to make, Dr. Tag can help you decide. You may wish to replace your old breast implants with new ones for cosmetic reasons, including:

  • To have larger or smaller breasts
  • To achieve a different breast shape or feel
  • To update to a newer generation of breast implants

Implant Switch

It’s common to change from saline breast implants to silicone. Silicone breast implants have a higher upfront cost, which is why some people choose saline; however, years after surgery, you may decide you want to replace your saline implants with silicone, which has a more natural look and feel.

The silicone gel contained within the implants mimics the viscosity and feel of natural breast fat, so it’s a great option for results that feel like the real thing!

Sagging Breast Tissue

As you age, your skin and tissue naturally droop and sag. Although your breast implants may remain in their raised, perky position, the tissue toward the edge of the implant may start to sag. Dr. Tag can perform a procedure to reduce excess tissue and give you great results.

Treating Capsular Contracture

A capsule of scar tissue naturally forms around breast implants. It encases the implant and is perfectly normal and expected. In uncommon instances, the capsule contracts and tightens, which can cause discomfort.

In some cases of capsular contracture, your breast will also feel hard to the touch. Dr. Tag can correct capsular contracture with a surgical procedure, including making a small incision in the capsule.

This may be all that is needed to allow the capsule to stretch, thin, and soften. For more advanced contracture, a capsulectomy procedure may need to be performed to remove the capsule entirely.

How We Perform Breast Revision Surgery

Dr. Tag performs breast revision surgeries at an accredited surgical facility or hospital. During your consultation, we’ll discuss the details of the surgical facility and schedule your surgical appointment.

You’ll be sedated with general anesthesia to ensure your comfort throughout the procedure. After the surgery, you will wake up feeling groggy and sore, and we will move you to a comfortable recovery room until you are ready to go home.

It is essential to arrange for someone to accompany you to the appointment, stay during the procedure, and drive you home afterward. You will also need someone to stay with you continuously for the first 24 hours after surgery.

Breast Revision Candidates

The first step is to arrange your consultation with Dr. Tag. Besides discussing why you’re seeking a Baltimore breast revision, Dr. Tag will review your health history and other factors to ensure you are a good candidate for surgery.

In some cases, performing a breast implant revision in conjunction with a breast lift makes sense. The breast lift procedure (mastopexy) reduces excess, sagging tissue and raises the position of the breasts.

Dr. Tag will determine if a concurrent procedure makes sense in your case and will let you know all options.

FAQ: Breast Revision Surgery

Breast Revision Recovery

You should walk around a few hours after surgery to help circulate your blood. You may not feel like leaving your house for a few days, but most people return to work within a week, especially if your job is desk-based.

You should avoid strenuous exercise and activity for four to six weeks. Dr. Tag will let you know when you can resume your specific exercise and activity routine. Heavy lifting must be avoided for at least six weeks.

Initially, your breasts may appear higher and firmer than expected. They will gradually settle into a more natural position over the coming weeks. Your final results will become more apparent after six weeks as most swelling subsides.

Minor changes may continue to occur for up to a year as subtle reductions in swelling take place during this time.

If you have any questions or concerns during your recovery, please do not hesitate to contact our Baltimore office. We are here to support you every step of the way to ensure a smooth and successful recovery.
