Remove Fat & Tighten Skin

Tummy tuck surgery, or abdominoplasty, is a body contouring procedure that removes excess fat and skin from the abdominal area. It’s one of the most popular cosmetic procedures at U Plastic Surgery + Aesthetics and around Baltimore.

Your Tummy Tuck Options

You have several options when it comes to customizing your tummy tuck, including:

  • Type of tummy tuck: Mini, standard, or extended
  • Incision placement: Horizontal incision locations to minimize visible scarring
  • Muscle repair: Tightening of abdominal muscles if needed
  • Liposuction: Optional addition to remove excess fat for enhanced contour
  • Skin removal: Amount of excess skin to be removed

During your consultation, we'll discuss these tummy tuck options and what they mean for your results and your life after the procedure.

Dr. Tag will explain how each option can affect the outcome, including recovery time and the appearance of your abdominal area. You’ll be able to see examples of how different tummy tuck procedures look post-operation, although results will vary depending on your body type and individual needs.

The Tummy Tuck Process

During abdominoplasty, Dr. Tag performs the procedure according to the treatment plan he customizes just for you.

While all abdominoplasty procedures remove excess fat and skin, U Plastic Surgery + Aesthetics may customize other factors, including repairing stretched or separated abdominal muscles or performing liposuction to complement the results.

Who's a Candidate for a Tummy Tuck?

Tummy tuck surgery can be an excellent option for women and men to remove fat and tighten skin. You may be a good candidate for surgery if you’re interested in addressing any of the following:

  • A flabby midsection
  • Excess abdominal fat and skin
  • A protruding abdomen, sometimes referred to by our patients as a “pooch”
  • Stretched abdominal muscles/a weakened abdominal wall (diastasis recti)

Loose skin and extra heft on your abdomen can make you feel self-conscious and less confident. Here are some of the contributing factors to these issues:

  • Pregnancy
  • Weight fluctuations
  • Genetics/your body type
  • Age-related changes
  • C-section or other abdominal surgery

FAQ: Tummy Tuck

Tummy Tuck Recovery

You should walk around a few hours after surgery to help circulate your blood. You probably won't want to leave your house for one to two days. Most people return to work within one to two weeks, especially if your job is not physically demanding.

You should avoid strenuous exercise and activity for four to six weeks. Dr. Tag will let you know when you can resume your specific exercise and activity routine. You must avoid heavy lifting for at least six weeks.

Although your abdomen will be swollen initially, the swelling will gradually subside over the coming weeks. Your final results will become more apparent after six weeks once most swelling has decreased. Minor changes may continue to occur for up to a year as subtle reductions in swelling take place during this time.

If you have any questions or concerns during your recovery, please do not hesitate to contact our office. We are here to support you every step of the way to ensure a smooth and successful recovery.
